Title: Have a Little Patience

Pairing: Jeff/Jensen

Rating: PG-13

Word Count: 1165

Summary: Written for the prompt: Jeff has had a really bad day. Unusually grouchy, he inadvertently hurts Jensen's feelings. Seeing the error of his ways, Jeff finds a way to make it up to Jensen.

Leaning against his kitchen counter, Jeff took a long, much-needed drink of coffee and glared at the clock. Nine in the morning was way too early for him to be up after a late night shoot that had lasted for too long. Three hours of sleep just wasn’t enough. He winced and shifted his weight, taking pressure off the bruise on his right hip; the actor that he had been working with in the scene had been way too enthusiastic and had ended up knocking him into a wall, hard.

He took another sip of the hot coffee, cursed when some of the liquid spilled over onto his hand. He was getting too old for this; the long shoots, the bruises, not being able to see his friends and, worse, Jensen whenever he felt like it. Working in different time zones wasn’t exactly easy.

Shaking his head at himself, he placed the cup of coffee down on the counter; he wasn’t going to be able to get back to sleep if he kept on drinking it and sleep was precisely what he needed. A nice warm bed where he could just relax and forget about his aching muscles so that, when he woke up, he would be ready to enjoy his week off.  He glanced towards his ticket on the counter to check his flight time so that he could leave himself enough time to pack and then began to head back towards the stairs.

He scowled at the phone as it began to ring and then sighed, picking it up. “This is Jeff.”

“It’s me.”

“Jensen. Hi.” He leaned back against the wall, hoping that Jensen wouldn’t want to talk for too long; he would rather get some sleep so that he could be awake when he actually saw his boyfriend. “Is this important? I’m busy.”

“Oh.”

He closed his eyes and told himself that Jensen hadn’t sounded too disappointed, “Yeah. Can we just talk when I get in tomorrow?”

“I was just-”

“I’m really busy, Jensen. Unless it’s life or death it can wait.”

“Right. I guess I’ll see you tomorrow, then.”

Jeff hung up, leaving the phone off the hook so that he wouldn’t be disturbed again and made his way up the stairs.

---

The ringing of his cell phone woke Jeff up and he made a mental note to remember to leave it downstairs the next time he was trying to catch up on sleep. Groaning, he rolled over in the bed, kicking at the covers to free his legs from the tangle and answered the cell.

“What?”

“Jeff? Are you okay? I tried calling the house but-”

“The phone’s off the hook, Jared.” He checked the time and frowned; he had only been asleep for a few extra hours. “I’m trying to sleep.”

“Sleep. You’re sleeping?”

“I was.”

“You asshole.”

He sat up in bed, annoyed at the insult. “Who are you calling an-”

“Jensen’s really upset.”

“What? Why?”

“Because he phoned you and you totally brushed him off when he really needed a friendly voice. When he really needed his boyfriend.

Resting his head back against the headboard, Jeff rubbed a hand across closed eyes, still trying to wake himself up. “Jared. What are you talking about?”

“Jensen had a nasty fall on set – a really nasty fall. He’s sprained his wrist and he’s cut his head and he’s covered in bruises and he called you because he wanted some sympathy.”

“Fuck. Is he okay? ” Even as he spoke, he jumped out of the bed and began to hunt for his clothes.

“He’s slightly concussed and he’s achy and he’s grumpy but, apart from that, he’s alright.”

Relaxing slightly, Jeff pulled his suitcase down from the top of the wardrobe, “You’re with him?” He really hoped that Jensen wasn’t alone, hurting.

“Yeah.”

“Okay, I’ll be there as soon as I can. Stay with him until I get there.” He didn’t wait for Jared to reply, just hung up and began to shove his things into the suitcase, cursing his own stupidity. He should have known something was wrong when Jensen called; Jensen had known that he had had a night shift, there was no way he would have disturbed Jeff unless it was important. And if he hadn’t have been half-asleep, so focused on getting some rest, he would have realized that.

Jared had said that Jensen wasn’t too badly hurt but Jeff knew that that was physically. He knew Jensen, knew that his boyfriend would be feeling embarrassed at falling in front of everyone and halting filming, knew that Jensen would be feeling more than a little bit put out at the way he had been brushed off earlier and he knew that that was his, and only his, fault. Jaw clenched in determination, Jeff zipped up his suitcase. He had a week off which meant that he had a whole week to make it up to Jensen. And, boy, was he going to do that.

---

Jeff didn’t relax – couldn’t totally trust that Jensen was really okay – until he walked through the door to their home and heard Jensen complaining that Jared was fussing too much. Jensen being grumpy was a good sign, even if it meant that it would be harder for Jeff to look after him. He made his way through the house and into the living room, sucked in a breath when he caught sight of the bandage on Jensen’s head. Jensen’s head snapped around and Jeff felt another wave of guilt surge through his body when Jensen’s eyes widened in surprise.

“You’re here?”

Shaking his head, he made his way over to the settee on which Jensen was lying and knelt down beside him. “Of course I’m here, sweetheart. You’re hurt.”

Jensen shrugged, his lips quirking slightly when Jeff took hold of his hand. “Only a little bit.”

Jared coughed, “I’m going to head off now. I’ll drop by tomorrow. Jeff, let me know if you need me to bring anything by, okay?”

“Sure thing, Jared.” Jeff squeezed Jensen’s hand. “Thanks.” He ran his thumb across Jensen’s wrist as he waited for Jared to leave.

“It’s good to see you, Jeff.”

“Is it? I was an ass to you on the phone. I’m so, so sorry. I was just – I was tired and that’s no excuse because you needed me.”

Jensen shook his head, “It’s okay, you didn’t know.”

“No.” He leaned across and kissed Jensen, scraped his teeth gently across Jensen’s bottom lip and then pulled back. “It isn’t. And I’m going to make it up to you. I promise.”

“Huh.” Jensen smirked. “How?”

“I’m going to spend the whole week looking after you. You’re not going to have to do anything except sit and be waited on.”

Jensen sighed. “You mean you’re going to be a mother-hen.”

Laughing, Jeff reached out and brushed a hand through Jensen’s hair. “Sweetheart, I’m going to be the biggest mother-hen that ever lived.”
