Bullet Post the third (or maybe fourth)

  • You're getting a bullet post because I've tried writing a post about ten times now and it keeps screwing up so I'm being lazy this time.
  • I'm also going to have to post the WIP meme snippets tomorrow instead of today because lj keeps screwing up.
  • I went to a friend's 18th party thing today, wore a dress (!) and stood out in the sun. All was good.
  • My summer school starts tomorrow. I thought I'd be nervous but right now I just feel excited more than anything. People there won't know me so I'm going to take the chance to change who I am. I'm no longer going to be the shy one who hardly ever speaks up in class, I'm going to be someone who does. Strangely, I've been feeling more and more confident over the last few months and I like it. I'm still me, I'm just not getting nervous (read:terrified) over stupid things anymore.
  • I need to go and try finish reading Atonement now so that I can say I've read at least one of the books on the course (I gave up on Pride and Prejudice AGAIN.)
  • I'll let you know how things go tomorrow/what my timetable is like etc.
  • I have a dog licking my arm.
  • That is all.

I think this attitude is good. For me, it took some weeks/months until I had adjusted to the new class system during the last three years of school. When I changed to university though, I think I've become a more quieter person in class. If you only see those people once per week is slightly different to seeing them every day in class for three years. So I'm mostly quiet, except for the courses where I'm really interested in the topic or feel instantly comfortable - which are not that many. *sigh* But we only get grades for the exams and papers anyway, so whatever.

Yeah, I've always been really quiet in school and the one thing teachers have always said is that I should talk more so I'll definitely try to make the effort (at least for these two weeks of the summer school where there won't be a lot of us!)

I definitely understand that. When I feel comfortable, I say what I think. When I don't feel comfortable, I just don't... But once I've started participating in class, there's no stopping. *g*

Haha, it seems like I'm out quite a lot lately!

Thank you. Haha, I've tried to read it three or four times. I did get further through this time but then I switched to Atonement ;)

I wish you the best of luck for your summer school tomorrow!

Change is (almost) always good. Sounds as if this is a good time to start a new chapter in your life. I've thought about doing the same should I do my MA after all. But that's still a year away :)

What made you give up on Pride and Prejudice? I haven't read it but sometimes I think I should because it's such a classic. Did you not like it?

I've locked my cat outside for most of the day because I've been studying since this afternoon. But I feel so exhausted by now I can't do anything anymore. I really, really hope the test goes well tomorrow.

[identity profile] theron09.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you :) Yeah, I think I just want to try and speak up more, get involved in discussions without feeling self-concious.

I'm not sure - I got further into it this time but it's like I keep hitting a wall where I don't want to read it anymore. I think what I really need is a day when I can just sit and read the whole thing in one go.

Good luck with the test tomorrow - you certainly deserve to do well after all the hard work you put into it!!

Well done on gaining more confidence.

Thanks :) It makes going into a strange place/situation tomorrow much easier.

My summer school starts tomorrow.

How did it go? :)

(I gave up on Pride and Prejudice AGAIN.)

Why? What don't you like about it? I read it a few years ago for school (although in my first language) and I enjoyed it..

[identity profile] theron09.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It went well - nothing too scary!

I don't know - I think I will probably enjoy it once I read it properly. I'm just struggling to get into it :)

[identity profile] romennim.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
:) probably.

ah! I wanted to tell you.. after reading your mentions to Leverage, I got interested and looked into it. I'm now seeing the first season and I adore it :)

[identity profile] theron09.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow - I'm so pleased to hear that! Leverage is so awesome :)

[identity profile] romennim.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
you're right! :) as soon as I can, I will read your fics about it :)

Yay for feeling more confident! :) That's a good attitude to take.

I've given up on Pride and Prejudice many times as well. Good to know I'm not the only one.

[identity profile] theron09.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It really helped today, I think :)

I;m so glad I'm not the only one!!!!!!!

That's so great that you're feeling more confident! Confidence is always a powerful thing to have.

Thanks - yeah, I think it's definitely improving my experiences of these sorts of events.
