The Boys' Night Out Job:
I’ve been looking forward to this episode all week – The Girl’s Night Out Job did such a great job of teasing this episode without giving too much away and it’s going to be so interesting to see how it fits in with what was going on last episode.
Hurley at the start – dancing in his car in the same way he did in his original introduction in The 12 Step Job – show, why are you so perfect? Lovely continuity! Ooh, as is the fact it’s the thief who runs out in front of his car so it ties into last time!
I loved the set up at the start of Poker with Bonanno and Eliot’s friend Shelley. ‘If I told you I’d have to kill you’ and all of them laughed and then we had Eliot: ‘yeah, he actually would.’ It just sums up the spirit of the team with cops and more questionable characters playing alongside each other.
Also, maybe I’m reading too much into it but, aside from being an awesome character and providing some comic moments, I think the fact that Shelley was there was actually a huge deal. Eliot’s always been a bit reluctant to share his past with the team and Shelley being there, someone from Eliot’s ‘other life’ as it were being allowed to interact with the team suggests that
a)Shelley is important to Eliot, Eliot trusts him enough to let him into Nate’s apartment.
b) Eliot is feeling more comfortable sharing bits of himself with the team – maybe it’s because they know about Moreau and things can’t get any worse, maybe it’s just because he’s realised they’re in it for the long haul. But either way it’s important.
I hope we get to see more of Shelley because he was awesome! And it’s Sean Faris and that’s also pretty awesome :)
The dynamics between Nate and Hurley in this episode were really great – I loved the fact that Hurley finally got not just one hug but several! And it allowed for an interesting perspective on Nate’s drinking because there was someone who had managed to stay sober for two years. I also loved that, although Hurley was a better person, he still had that naivety that was part of the reason I ended up liking him in The 12 Step Job.
The supporting cast was used so well in this episode – Hurley, Shelley, Bonanno but also the two Irish guys arguing about the layers of the church and just being generally funny. Loved the line about Boy Scouts.
‘Let me shoot him Eliot’ – Hardison! Aside from being quite funny, the fact that Eliot wouldn’t let Hardison shoot the guy also resonated because Eliot doesn’t want anyone else in his team to have to ever do that.
Eliot’s pep talk to Hardison was pure genius. ‘If I said that then that means I would be thinking about you and Parker which I never do’ (Sorry, but you clearly do, Eliot.)
Hardison trying to be assertive to prove a point to Eliot (because he actually tries to impress Eliot a lot). And then ‘By the way, I don’t think that bouncer outside is affiliated with these guys. Just so you know’ – it’s the sort of subtle humour that Leverage does best.
Eliot ‘let me take this one’ - Hardison ‘get your ass back.’ I thought this was a lovely echo of The 12 Step Job, with the ‘bring your ass’ line.
Aww, Eliot let Hardison win rock, paper, scissors! I love, love, love that.
Basically, this episode was just fantastic.

Date: 2011-12-19 01:20 pm (UTC)I liked this one :) a lot of people have been saying they preferred this one to last week's, I think I like them the same but I loved how different this one was; they were helping people but in a different way to usual, they got caught up in it so had to help rather than being asked
Do you know if this season is longer than the other seasons? It feels like it's had more episodes cos there's usually around 13/14 but I could be wrong lol

Date: 2011-12-19 03:01 pm (UTC)I liked both the episodes - think they both had different feels to them. Last week's was all girl power and the slick world of thieves, this week was about the guys being caught in the middle of quite a messy situation.
Yeah, this one is longer - I can't remember how many episodes but I think it's either 18 or 22 that we're getting this time.

Date: 2011-12-19 03:31 pm (UTC)I really want to see an episode where Eliot Goes Missing, and they have to call Shelley to help get him back. :D

Date: 2011-12-19 03:58 pm (UTC)I feel like they're not done with Shelley yet - I think there must have been a reason he was introduced (after all, they could have done the con without him etc) and wow, that'd be a perfect episode! Leverage writers, take note!

Date: 2011-12-20 06:35 am (UTC)Can I have more of Shelley, please? Let's have him come back :).
Oh, just one thing. Am I the only one who felt a little like the ending was like Eliot introducing his GF to the family? I mean, I assume it's because she is in RL, but I thought it was a little unusual for Eliot (not CK, lol) to hang around that long with her. I like her and all, but I hope she'll be a one time thing and they're not giving Eliot a GF. Because that would really not fit to Eliot at all - at least how I see it.

Date: 2011-12-20 12:25 pm (UTC)Oh, I hope so! Shelley was awesome and I love Sean Faris :)
Hmm, I'm not sure - I see where you're coming from but there's been mentions of them meeting girls he's dated before so I'm not sure.

Date: 2011-12-20 12:47 pm (UTC)I just don't want them to feel like they need to provide Eliot with a steady girlfriend now that they've paired up the others. I can barely stand the focus on the other couples and that would move the show too far from what I like about it. But hey, that's just my opinion...
