theron09I REALLY, REALLY LIKED THE EPISODE.
I know that there are some people on my flist who didn't and I totally respect that - everyone has their own opinions.
But, for me, it was a great episode.
-The opening 'one year ago' montage made me cry. I think it worked well, although I missed the AC/DC.
-I think the montage with domestic!Dean contrasting with hunter!Dean was possibly my favourite bit of the whole episode. I thought that I wouldn't like Dean with Lisa and Ben but that tiny bit in the montage where they're cooking breakfast actually made me melt.
The thing is, I still can't get behind Dean/Lisa but I still enjoyed watching them as a family, if that makes sense.
I loved the fact that Dean had the holy water next to the bed. That's one of the things that worked really well for me; the fact that the signs of hunting (the water, the devils trap, etc) were still there. I know I was worried about the characterisation before I watched the episode but it still totally felt like Dean to me.
- "I wanted my brother - alive". That made me sad :( There were so many good little lines like that in the episode, though. I liked their reunion; it wasn't really how I would have imagined it and there are probably ways that I would have preferred it to go but I think that it was right considering their situation.
- The Campbells are definitely up to no good. I loved the hug between Dean and Samuel, loved the exchange about being 'professionals'. I hope that they're not going to be in every episode though. And I want to know what's going on with them.
- As for Dean staying with Lisa and Ben in the end, I think it was exactly in character. I mean, aside from the fact that he cares about them, he feels responsible for them, feels like he's put them in danger and now he needs to look after them. And, I'm sorry, but surely anyone who has been watching this show for the past five seasons knows that Dean always takes his responsibilities seriously.
That said, I can't wait for him to be back with Sam properly.
- However, I am never, ever going to get used to Dean with his shirt tucked in XD
I'm really looking forward to seeing the icons and fics for this episode.

Sam was very off. But what could we expect after all that time spent in the cage?
the new part of the family don't convince me at all. Something is not right there..... :/

I agree about Sam - I think he's just trying to forget about the cage, like Dean was at the start of S4.
I just hope the Campbells don't hurt Dean too much!

The Campbells are definitely what they say they are. I've got so many questions now, and I'm hoping we get some answers soon. Sammy needs to be with Dean, not with the long lost relatives who are probably evil.
I think a lot of the negativity about this episode is because it's so different from what we know. But it HAD to be. Because the apocalypse ended, and there's no way the world and the characters wouldn't be different after that. I think the epiosde was so weird and confusing because we were pretty much seeing it from Dean's perspective- and it was sure as hell weird and confusing for him as well. I'm hoping that when Dean starts getting his questions answered, we will too. Because I'm almost certain things are not what they seem to be right now.

And I agree again with the fact that the show had to be different - they've been apart for a year and they've been living with different people.

I loved it, really. I didn't expect much, and I wasn't sure about watching this season (told you about it, remember?) but now I feel a little better.
the dynamic, the characterizations, the tiny teeny differences...and Jared seriously stepped it up a notch here.

THANK YOU. I would've been so pissed if he ditched them for Sam, tbh. It makes perfect sense that he stayed with them. And besides, we all know he's going back to Sam eventually anyway.

This so much. If I'm being honest with myself, this is a large part of why I thought the episode was so great. I was worried they were going to assassinate Dean's character, but it worked so well that I was left feeling very pleased. I'm not totally behind Dean/Lisa either, but the fact that they made it work and made me like watching it was awesome.

Date: 2010-09-25 09:05 pm (UTC)I get what you're saying about how it wouldn't have been in-character for Dean to simply leave Lisa and Ben. After all, they're more vulnerable than Sam and I think Dean might also feel betrayed by his brother and Bobby for not telling him Sam was alive.
However, I wasn't always convinced by Sam: it seemed to me that he went from "I wanted you to have a normal life" to "You're putting Lisa and Ben in danger by being with them" within five minutes. And that last part really sounded like emotional blackmail to me.
Can't wait to see the boys properly together again either but I hope they're not going to simply kill Lisa and Ben off. That really happens too often in TV land.

Sam. Hmm. See, I get what you mean about him being a bit weird. I guess he has been in the cage and then surrounded by hunters, though. Idk, I think he needs to kind of break down/tell Dean about Hell before he can be himself again.
Honestly, I think the only way that they're going to be able to get Dean back with Sam is to kill Lisa. Dean's not going to leave them without good reason and it's kind of tradition for the girls the Winchester's love to be killed off.
